Disney Made Raven-Symoné Wear Heels For This Sad Reason

Artist Raven-Symoné highlights the shocking reason Disney Channel made her wear heels during various projects with the children’s network.

The star of “That’s So Raven” and “Cheetah Girls” has long been considered a major player on the network, helping to grow audiences with its eponymous series and producing its spinoff, “Raven’s Home,” from from 2016.

While appearing on “The Unplanned Podcast” alongside his wife, Miranda Pearman-Maday, Symoné addressed several topics related to her run on Disney Channel, including why she was often seen wearing only high heels.

According to the actress, this was done to make her appear “slimmer” on screen.

“It’s understood that if you’re short and you wear heels, it makes you slimmer,” Raven said, “because if you look taller, the proportions (of your body) adjust.”

By BuzzfeedSymone noted that “conversations” often took place between his team and the network to maintain visual enthusiasm.

This even extended to her character Galleria in 2003’s “The Cheetah Girls” and its 2006 sequel, being the only girl to wear heels in both films.

Symoné’s characters were made to wear heels even if they were not logically obliged to do so

Most astonishing of all of Symoné’s confessions were the times she claimed to have worn heels, even when situations wouldn’t normally call for such a fashion choice.

“When you look at ‘That’s So Raven,’ every outfit had heels,” she expressed.

“There were times when I wore heels and pajamas just because it made you look thinner,” she continued.

Now older, Symoné wishes her team wasn’t so strict about her body, but notes how different things were during her Disney Channel heyday.

“It was a different time,” she concluded. “No one was my size at that time.”

As excerpts from Symoné’s podcast began to make waves on social media, those who watched her shows on Disney Channel expressed disappointment in the way she was treated.

“I always thought it was because her character in ‘That’s So Raven’ was trendy,” one TikTok user noted.

Others reiterated their belief that Raven’s TV “fashionista” alter ego was the main reason the character wore heels and expressed their heartbreak at the truth.

“I always thought it was just part of his character’s style,” another TikTok user shared. “It’s so sad.”

Symoné went under the knife several times as a teenager to fit a certain mold for television

Symoné’s podcast comments follow another recent admission regarding her teenage body and being forced to alter it for public consumption.

In a December 2024 episode of “Tea Time with Raven and Miranda”, the podcast she hosts with her wife, Symoné, claims that several adults in her life pushed her to have a breast reduction at just 15 years old.

“I went from a triple D to a B,” the actress shared, adding, “Someone said I had to do it to get a show.”

While she wanted to reduce her breasts, Symoné also requested to undergo liposuction – a cause linked to the harsh criticism she often faced over her plumper figure.

“At the same time, I was like, ‘If you’re going to take my boobs out, I want lipo,'” she said.

This would be the second of two breast reductions Symone underwent before she turned 18. Unfortunately, during the first round, she had a seizure.

“The first time I had it, I had a seizure when I woke up after the surgery, and I remember waking up and seeing everything,” Symoné explained during a 2023 podcast.

“Then my mouth was dry and I couldn’t breathe, and they were like, ‘Oh yeah, you had a seizure.’ “

Old viral clip shows more ways Disney failed to pursue one of its brightest stars

Symoné’s comments about the Disney Channel’s controlling nature over her body explain why fans feel the network, which was supposed to make her a star, treated her unfairly.

A now-viral clip from Symoné’s 2010 appearance on BET’s “106 & Park” shows the singer expressing frustration — albeit joking — that no one is buying her music.

“Aren’t I always in the studio recording music that no one is buying,” she says when asked about her potential projects.

Coincidentally, Symoné had by then signed with Hollywood Records, Disney’s music subsidiary, alongside fellow Disney Channel artists Hilary Duff, Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers. The final three acts would earn multiple No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart.

However, Symoné failed to crack the top 50 with 2004’s “This Is My Time”, her first Hollywood Records project. Likewise, its 2006 self-titled follow-up, distributed through Hollywood Records, failed to chart at all.
