According to Carter, Sylvester was at the rec center jogging alongside a teammate when surveillance footage suddenly showed her stopping and putting her hands on her knees. At that point, an adult apparently left the gym to get help and called 911.

Nine minutes later, an EMT vehicle was seen in the parking lot.

“Paramedics were able to stabilize the teenager, who appeared alert and unable to speak. An ambulance for transport by Grady EMS had also been requested, via 911 and College Park Fire Rescue. Grady EMS never responded to the call. » said the city of College Park in a subsequent statement.

Eventually, bystanders helped Sylvester into his mother’s van. According to Carter, paramedics thought Sylvester was having a seizure. Under the law, medical technicians would not be allowed to transfer patients to the hospital. According to Carter, only paramedics have this authority.
