According to the BBCEarlier this month, Andrew said that after receiving government advice, he had severed ties with Yang Tengbo, a businessman accused of being a Chinese spy.

His office said Tengbo was introduced through official channels and “nothing sensitive was ever discussed.”

Reports also indicate that Tengbo attended royal events at the Duke’s invitation, including Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and St James’s Palace.

However, the chronology of their association remains confidential. In November 2021, police intercepted and questioned Tengbo at the UK border, invoking his powers to investigate possible “hostile activities” linked to a foreign state.

During the meeting, Tengbo handed over several electronic devices, including a cell phone. The contents of these devices are said to have caused serious concern within MI5, prompting the then Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, to exercise exceptional powers.

Following a ruling by the National Security Court, Tengbo was barred from entering the UK.
