One of the greatest shows in history is EASTa medical drama that set the mold for the entire genre, but after 15 seasons and over 300 episodes, the series ended in 2009. Since then, different medical dramas have tried to become the next big thing, from The good doctor has Chicago Medwith mixed results. Debuting on Max January 29 The Pitt dares to be different for a medical drama by adopting the “24 Hours” gimmick, with each episode following an hour during Dr. Michael “Robby” Rabinavitch’s shift.
Real-time emergency room
Played by EAST Starring Noah Wyle, Robby is at the center of the chaotic maelstrom of a daily shift at Pittsburgh’s medical trauma hospital, the first on the ground for most of the cast’s characters. In most medical dramas, the patients are the least essential part of the series, which will inevitably focus on either doctors in a relationship or a gifted and talented medical prodigy. The Pittthanks to the near-real-time gadget, barely stops for breath to give medical personnel a chance to form relationships, let alone romance. Turns out the solution to this predictable and boring medical drama was to add a running clock.
While The Pitts the time gimmick is different, and currently the audience is only three hours into the ten o’clock shift, that’s the status of the show as Max streaming original that allows it to do something no other network drama can: show blood and guts. The degloving of the leg is horribly depicted throughout the first hour as the leg looks worse and worse, giving the crew an opportunity to show off their practical effects skills. It’s unclear how far the series will go by the end of its first season, but seeing massive amounts of blood on screen during a medical drama may be a bit of a shock for those who grew up in this series. Already one of Max’s most successful shows
Between the gimmick of the episode and the abundance of blood, the casting of The Pitt brings the type of humanizing touch you expect from a medical drama. Isa Briones, Data’s daughter Picardand Fiona Dourif of Chucky are two of the most recognizable doctors, but it’s Gerran Howell as medical student Dennis Whitaker, who stands out in the first three episodes as he completes a rite of passage during his first shift . Noah Wyle, back home on the set of a hospital, is exceptional as Robby and will immediately make you think of Dr. John Carter, but there is more to his character that has yet to be revealed, with allusions to a dark experience that lies hidden. in his past.
The Pitt reinvents the medical drama, and for the first three hours of Robby’s shift, it was a thrilling adventure that has already become one of the top five most-streamed shows Max. history. Critics gave the show a new rating of 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes through the first three episodes, with audiences close behind, at 91% fresh. Now that The good doctor is over, Noah Wyle’s return to the ER will be the next big thing.
