Husband Confesses to Killing Wife’s Unborn Rainbow Baby
An affidavit from the Indianapolis Metro PD describes a Jan. 19 phone call about a shooting. A female witness had stopped by Kayla’s house to do laundry, but discovered Jeremy McBride standing next to Netherland’s bloodied body on the bathroom floor. At that time, the woman said her ex-husband appeared to be on the phone telling her that someone had been shot. He allegedly left the scene before the police arrived. However, during the woman’s 911 call, she said he called her to inform her he was turning himself in.
Police found him before he could get to the station, arrested him and arrested him. During his arrest, he allegedly told police that the weapon was in his car, which was checked. After a search warrant, investigators also found an extended magazine and two loaded handgun magazines.
During his interview with police, Jeremy McBride admitted to plotting the death of his estranged wife and the death of his unborn rainbow baby. McBride also considered suicide. He also said he practiced aiming several times before the attack. The bullets that hit Kayla ultimately hit her abdomen and killed the 20-week-old fetus, which McBride admitted was jealous he wasn’t the father.
“McBride admitted to thinking about his plans for several days and stated that he shot his wife multiple times when she was denied access to him in the residence,” the probable cause affidavit states.
Prosecutors said McBride revealed he was upset about Kayla’s pregnancy after they struggled with infertility. He claimed she had been unfaithful and had become pregnant by someone else while their divorce was not finalized. Jeremy also had several written notes detailing his paternity rage and jealousy.
“Maybe she’ll come back one day, but not for me.” But in many ways, I killed it. Jeremy McBride reportedly said.
