Humans tell terrible stories about things that have been working in the night since dawn, and tens of thousands of years later, the fear of darkness remains. As a rule, we go beyond this fear as we age, but it is one of those strange quirks of humanity that each culture of the world and through history told the legend of the Boogeyman, a being who punishes the badly children and hiding places in darkness. The monster takes many different forms and an infinite quantity of names, but it has never pierced in Hollywood; Even if the 2005 film BOOGEYMAN It was a surprise success, it is mainly forgotten today.
The Boogeyman picks you up

BOOGEYMAN Stars Barry Watson, always better known for 7th skyAs Tim, a young man who saw his father be pulled in the closet by the monster inside. Years later, while returning to his childhood home to face his fears of the front, Tim’s girlfriend is murdered by the Boogeyman, and he barely saves his childhood friend Kate (Emily Deschanel, in her last one Role before breaking on Bones) of the opening of the opening the bad cupboard door. Kate does not quite believe Tim that a supernatural being hunts him down and even says that it is “the thing under the bed that leads you”.
If you have guessed what happens to Kate later in the film, congratulations because you are right. BOOGEYMAN is the type of horror film where each turn and turn can be seen going down a mile on the road, but, like the best of its kind, it establishes some basic rules and weaknesses for the legendary monster which is apparently capable to appear anywhere and at any time. He also has a simple intrigue and some jump fears, which combine with the execution time of 89 minutes to make it a first perfect horror film for any new person in the genre.
A kind of success

A horror film focused only on the manufacture of terrifying closets sounds like a false film of Saturday Night LiveBut that’s exactly this BOOGEYMAN is, and against all odds, it was a financial success. With a horizon of $ 67 million, the film tripled its production budget and was quickly followed by two direct suits at DVD, the first, the first, BOOGEYMAN 2Stars Jigsaw himself, Tobin Bell. Although the film has proven that the horror at low budget could easily succeed in the box office, its heritage took shape behind the camera by helping to launch the career of Eric Kripke. Sort of.
Kripke is known today as the creative spirit behind Supernatural And BoysBut he also wrote BOOGEYMANAnd you can see his influence in the long -standing episode of the CW program, “Hollywood Babylon”, which openly makes fun of the film. Critics were not nice to Kripke’s horror film, although it was only one of the three writers, and that he had the support of Bad Maestro Sam Raimi as a producer (who also explains why Lucy Lawless Make a brief appearance as a mother of Tim), she was not spared to receive a lamentable notation of 13% on rotten tomatoes. Fans, however, were more indulgent, transforming the film into a classic ironic cult perfect for adolescents, but as everyone knows, once you have reached a certain age, the thing It will work in the night is much less terrifying than the existential fear of waking up every day to go to work.
BOOGEYMAN is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
