After a In the media res moment which reveals itself later to be a very cheap false outbut (seriously, friends, it’s normal to not Start your great streaming series with a In the media res Scene), “Zero Day” cuts prosecution by releasing a devastating cyber attack in his first minutes. The attack only lasts a minute, and yet it is enough time to sew total chaos and lead to thousands of deaths due to the full failure of technology. The attack is also delivered with a disturbing message sent to all phones in America apparently: “This will happen again.” Desperate of the answers, the American president Evelyn Mitchell (Angela Bassett, drawing the best party of a part of a subscribed) decides to bring together a commission to investigate the attack. Pické to direct this commission is former president George Mullen (de Niro), who tells us, is one of the last American presidents to take advantage of the bipartite support of the American public. Mullen served only one mandate, deciding not to appear to re -election following a family tragedy. But while his ruling time was short, he remains popular and is considered the perfect choice to get the attack.
Mullen is worried: with the help of Congress, the Commission obtained the power to do almost anything, essentially shredding the Constitution in the name of the truth. The wife of Mullen, the former first lady Sheila Mullen (Joan Allen), tells him that he could enter a political trap by agreeing to direct the commission, while Mullen’s daughter, the deputy Alexandra Mullen (Lizzy Caplan ), tells him not to take not to take the work. Mullen, however, decides that he is the best man for the concert because he is a man of integrity and can direct things in the right direction … or at least he thinks. Of course, almost immediately, the former president begins to adopt dictator type trends. Before the end of the series, Mullen will instruct those who work under him to bring together apparently innocent citizens and, in a case, engage in a torture in its own right. Many and many times, Mullen tries to justify his actions in the name of doing what is good for the country, but the spectacle clearly shows that it is a man who yields to amoral darkness. At the same time, “Zero Day” Also seems to want to let Mullen take down by suggesting that he is not in his good sense, whether because of a disease or another harmful explanation. In the midst of all this, the consequences of the first attack and the imminent threat of more attacks to come and effectively tear the country, with the true chance of the societal collapse that is looming.
De Niro is mainly reserved in the part of Mullen, although he really seems to prosper in moments when the ex-potus becomes thug and violent. To make the character more interesting, there is a piece of racing that has apparently tormented by a tragedy in his past and also the very real threat that he could suffer from a kind of neurological deficiency. This is highlighted by having constantly heard Mullen the song of sex pistols “who killed Bambi?” In his head, and if I am brutally honest, I must admit that I hope that the showrunners have chosen a less boring air to play again and again. In the 150th time, the absolutely horrible song played on the soundtrack, I was ready to turn off the show or at least press the silent button.
De Niro is supported by a large familiar distribution – in addition to Bassett, Allen and Caplan, the series also presents Jesse Plemons as Roger, the man from Mullen’s right arm who lives up to a few shaded things, Dan Stevens Like Evan Green, an expert aloud who seems to be a merger of Alex Jones and countless other personalities from division of the slimeball media who realized that they could do A fortune of conspiracy and non -filtered hatred, Matthew Modine as a disaster speaker of the room, Gaby Hoffmann as a giant of technology in the form of Elon Musk, Connie Britton as a former chief of staff of Mullen, And the Bill camp still welcome as director of the CIA. All these artists are talented and do a good job here, but Stevens, who specializes in the game of bizarre crazy littleMakes the biggest impression, probably because his character becomes so tall and exaggerated that he goes back to his fans base.
