Amazon Kills James Bond All Over Again

No time to die was James Bond’s latest film for Daniel Craig, and this film ended (spoilers, sweety!) With the unthinkable: our favorite cinematic death. It made a sad and sober end, but it was difficult to get everything that Depressed because everyone knew that the character was going to be brought back early enough. Now, however, with a news that Amazon had bought Creative Control far from the shepherds of the Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson franchise, it is clear that the streamer will bring James Bond just to kill him again by completely diluting the brand.

Amazon transforms James Bond into content

Now Amazon has bought James Bond rights when they merged with MGM In 2022, and most fans assumed that we would have a new film shortly after. This merger cost the streamer for $ 8.5 billion, but there was a problem: they still could not make new bond films without the approval of broccoli and Wilson. NOW, Amazon chased another Billions to obtain creative control of these two, and although it means that we will have new James Bond films as soon as possible, it also means that the franchise will never be the same again.

Indeed, the Wall Street Journal reported in December 2024 that there was a serious bad blood between Amazon and James Bond Steward Barbara Broccoli, with her who allegedly pretended to have worked with “F ** King Idiots ”. She would have “not trusted Amazon centered on algorithm with a character whom she helped to mythologize thanks to a narration on the big screen and the intestinal instinct”. More perfectly, she would have rejected Amazon’s desire to create a cinematographic universe of James Bond with television shows on Prime.

How, then, all of this added to Amazon killing James Bond again? Although not all films were winning (looking at you, Spectrum), this franchise had a coherent style and atmosphere that he maintained for 25 films. It is an amazing cinematic disc that we owe to what point Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson care about this franchise, and without their creative control, there is no doubt that the streamer will take the most famous superspy in the world in a Direction completely different.

This does not mean that it will be an intrinsically bad Direction, of course. Just different. However, those who feared the possibility that the spy is completely revised (rethought as a black man, a woman, etc.) should know that the creative control of Amazon on James Bond makes these possibilities which become more likely than Never. Again, it is quite possible that such a film is blowing us (Idris Elba or Emily Blunt The two interesting choices of casting 007), but if you like the character of Bond and the films for their consistency, these major changes probably have more shaken than stirred.

We must also now face the possibility that Amazon will be released by the next James Bond film at Prime Video rather than in theaters. During initial negotiations with broccoli, they are engaged in a theatrical version, but this billion additional dollars can mean that they can do this and all future bond films like streaming exclusives. This may not mean much for digital natives who have spent their whole lives, but for old nerds like me, it is terrible to think that the era of theatrical events of James Bond could already be finished .

Above all, however, I am concerned about Amazon’s reported desire to create a MCU style universe for James Bond. On paper, something like a Moneypenny television show could be fun, especially if he had the creativity and quality of Amazon Mr. and Mrs Smith. But one of the reasons why the public has tired of Wonder Will their films feel like homework, and the streamer could face a serious decline if he expects fans to watch a bunch of linked media just to understand the intrigue of the next film of Bond or its new characters.

Maybe I’m just alarmist and old-fashioned … a bit like leap himself when he met the young new q Heaven. After 25 films, this franchise may deserve reinvention, and Amazon certainly has the deep pockets necessary to do justice to James Bond and his emblematic world. But if I am right and we are entering an era of binding films only streaming and television programs filled with bad CGI and tumbling viewers, fans are likely to reach the same conclusion as me: The real link died No time to dieand it is Never to come back.
