What should you know about? Science fiction films from the 90s. I feel like I did not give enough attention to this kind of niche.

Obviously, I like the cinema of the 90s like many Our videos Prove, and science fiction of the decade is a favorite genre. But I have another qualifier to add: franchise films. I find the cinema of franchise fascinating from a certain point of view.

Although it can be fun and creatively stimulating to speak of canon and transport characters and all the direct art involved in franchise films, it is more intriguing for me to watch the franchise films from their strategic points of view.

More specifically, what are these different films that try to make collectively and individually with regard to their franchise spirit?

Basically, what is an identifiable success point that a franchise film entry tries to make? Other than, you know, the silver buttocks.

Our subject today is a series of frankness that many fans and occasional public saw exactly what he was trying to achieve and reject him, putting his film franchise on ice for more than two decades.

That’s why Robocop 3 failed.

Robocop 3 and why he failed

Very good, let’s be personal very quickly. Robocop is my second favorite film of all time. It is a film that I could talk about forever and why it is so personal for me, but we have a failure to analyze. If you want to see this type of video, be sure to mention it in the comments.

Suffice it to say, Robocop is a well -established classic that, if you have not seen it, you deprive yourself of an effect blockbuster that takes as much care with its history and its characters as action and comedy.

Regarding Robocop 2 is worried, we will only talk about it with regard to Robocop 3. If you want to hear my thoughts on Robocop 2Discover the Episode of the Genvision Film Club We did it for our month of the theme we are the robots.

Robocop 2 is important for the history of the two Robocop 3Production and real history in film. Robocop 2 was mainly written by Frank Miller, one of the most famous comic book writers and artists in the 80s.

In June 1990, when Orion Pictures was about to go out Robocop 2The studio gave the green light to two other films. Since you will not find any Robocop 4 There you can guess how things are already going.

Frank Miller spent a tumultuous period during Robocop 2production but has returned to Robocop 3Even if his scenario would be given to another writer, who would also end up directing the film.

Fred Dekker obtained the position and he was certainly qualified when it comes to a legitimate gender fan. He had written and directed the delicious tribute to the universal monsters, The monster teamAnd Night of the Cremps, A film that I recommended on this channel in a video almost that no one watched.

Basically, Fred Dekker was someone who really loved this kind of thing. But, his scenario had another major creative influence, which would eventually be an important factor in Robocop 3 be hated by fans.

Orion Pictures had been able to transform the success of the first Robocop In a merchandise milk cow, capitalizing with toys, comics, video games and even a cartoon from the 80s.

By time Robocop 3 was in progress, Orion wanted to improve their chances at the box office by ensuring Robocop 3 could sell tickets to as many potential theater customers as possible. It meant Robocop 3 It would be the first film in the franchise to actively target a PG-13 note.

Really fast side:

By the way, Robocop 3 Would abandon the graphic violence of the first two films in favor of courting young viewers. It was an Orion choice directive at Fred Dekker. So, for all the problems that people load on this film, I only have empathy with regard to the situation of Dekker.

It did not help that Robocop himself, actor Peter Weller, was not available for the future because he was busy making a wonderful David Cronenberg nightmare instead. And there are interesting reports that Weller is too expensive for Orion to allow himself for another suite. I am ready to believe part of this given the ultimate fate of Orion images which bind directly Robocop 3.

Robocop 3The production began in February 1991 and ended in May of the same year, with the planned release of the film for the mid-1992, giving the film a lot of post-production and marketing time.

However, Orion’s photos ended up having to close in stores and declare bankruptcy before they could facilitate the release of Robocop 3Leaving the film as part of a sale of assets. Because of that, Robocop 3 would not see an American outing before November 1993, making its debut in international markets earlier that year thanks to a previous agreement with Columbia Pictures.

As you can see, there were a lot of fundamental problems Robocop 3 If it was about each stage of the process. If the film itself had been able to overcome these obstacles, it might have found more appreciation.

And I admit, judging Robocop 3 Like his own singular thing, not like a Robocop Film, it’s especially correct for a child science fiction Film on the crossroads of capitalism and fascism.

Robert Burke represents Peter Weller and that just doesn’t happen. Again, I do not envy Burke either to intervene for the main actor of the series. And the role can often be ungrateful and actually faceless, but it simply does not have the spark of Alex Murphy in him.

There are positive elements that deserve to be underlined in Robocop 3. We get a number of characters like Stephen Root, The Awesome Cch Pournder and my favorite, Rip Torn. In addition, the Maestro Basil Poledouris is back after being used for Robocop 2So, at least, we have this emblematic theme and another partition of one of the greatest composers in cinema.

A lot of things happen Robocop 3History and it is certainly one of his problems, as when he tries to put an Android assassin in the mixture, but the best and the key ground focuses on the poor Detroit which is thrown by force of their houses for the possible construction of a proposed utopia called Delta City.

This is the best comment in the film because we see fascist soldiers called Urban Rehabilitation Aka Rehabs being only Stormtroopers, then considering them as heroic action figures in one of the advertisements in the franchise world.

But as poignant as this story thread could be, the rest of the film is a mess. There is a strangely resonant plot for Orion Pictures themselves where OCP, the evil mega-society of the first two films, is sold and taken care of by another company. This leads to a few moments of reception black comedy But that doesn’t really matter for history.

There is also a character of Kid Stereotype Brainy in what is boring, and Robocop spends a lot of film on the touch, and they kill Lewis by Nancy Allen without reason.

Look, there are just a lot about Robocop 3 It does not work or is stupid but not in a funny way. And after being seated on the shelf for too long, it was clear that the public could feel that something was standing.

Robocop 3 Unfortunately, but a little openly open to # 3 at the box office in 1993 behind a film No. 1 in its third wide release week, The nightmare before Christmas. I guess School rock was right: three is a magic number.

He ended his race in North America with only $ 10 million to show for this, less than half of his declared budget. And the fallout from the failure of the film would see Fred Dekker sent to the prison of the director from which he never returned. Yes, Robocop 3 killed Fred Dekker’s staging career.

He would also kill the future of Robocop films for over twenty years until a restart released in theaters in 2014.

Robocop 3 Failure for so many reasons. The studio imposed bad creative decisions at the same time as they collapsed financially, the manager of the series was recast, and the final film simply offered nothing that the public thought they had already left the franchise.

When everything is said and done, I don’t think Robocop 3 is a horrible film, but it looks like a weak episode of a Robocop TV series. Oh no, please don’t make me look at the Robocop TV series. Will I see a lot of comments begging a video on the Robocop series? Will you like this video to put this evil me?

If you like torturing me, you better subscribe to the channel. This is the only way to guarantee the continuous suffering of my robocop. Thank you for your cooperation and we will see you next time here on Giant Freakin Robot.
