Nick Fury Fights One Of The Oldest & Strangest Super-Villains In New Marvel Comic [Exclusive Preview]

The comic book writer J. Michael Straczynski supervises a new Marvel meta-series which combines improbable duets together. One of These comics associated Doctor Doom with Rocket Raccoon. The next one presents a young Nick Fury fighting the huge extraterrestrial dragon known as the end of Fang Foom.

Marvel shared an exclusive preview of “Nick Fury vs End Fang Foom” # 1 with / film. The synopsis of the problem can be read as follows:

“The howling commandos face Fang Foom at the end! Nick Fury knows how to manage the problems, whatever the size – but he has never faced such a big enemy before! Witness the next chapter of the team event of J. Michael Straczynski while he is joined by Marvel Stormbreaker Elena Casagrande to bring you one of the wildest agreements in Marvel!”

End Fang Foom is a Makluan, from the Kakaranthara planet. Centuries and centuries ago, he and some of his inhabitants crashed in China, inspiring the old legends of Chinese dragons. Enemies of Iron Man Mandarin discovered their ship and, inside, its ten rings. It also ended Fang Foom to Iron Man, but it was not designed as Shellhead’s enemy.

End Fang Foom has a long and windy story. On the date of publication, he is one of the oldest characters in the Marvel universe, older than the universe itself. See, in the 1950s, Marvel remained mainly to the publication of Monster comics. The end of Fang Foom was one of these monsters, making his debut in “Strange Tales” of 1961 # 89, where a man by the name of Chan Liuchow wakes up the dragon to attack Communist China.

“Strange Tales” # 89 was written by Stan Lee and designed by Jack Kirby. Shortly after, their comic strip “Fantastic Four” # 1 struck the stands, was a booming success and Marvel took over the superhero books. Lee brought back some old characters in the new Marvel universe, such as Captain America and End Fang Foom. Of course, he also co-created many new ones, including Nick Fury.

See the cover of Gary Frank for “Nick Fury vs End Fang Foom” # 1 below, showing Fury and his companion Howling Dum Dum Duman Parachuting to face the Dragon.

A super-espion like Nick Fury fights terrorists and extraterrestrials both

Nick Fury is the most famous these days as director of Shield, the Super-Spy agency with an enviable acronym. But he was presented in a war comic strip: “Sergeant Fury and his howling commandos”, where he led a colorful peloton fighting during the Second World War. To maintain this background frame while the Marvel universe moves on a sliding time, Fury would have received a “infinite formula” which slows down its aging.

Well, this comic book brought back Fury to 1940, when he still had his howling commandos but not yet patch for the eyes. The comic strip opens with a summary page that takes unknown readers up to date.

The comic strip opens on an aerodrome, with Fury and Co. plans to fly. This is where Fury meets one of his future howling commandos: Gabe Jones, one of the first heroes of African-American Marvel.

From there, the team flies with the mountains bordered by snow (the Himalayas, perhaps?). They (and us) only briefly saw the dragon, but he doesn’t seem happy to see them. We know that Fury and Jones will survive this, but they will not fail to make Fang Foom fall. How will they escape? This is a question that only comics can answer.

“Nick Fury vs End Fang Foom” # 1 should be released on March 12, 2025.
