Carolina Panthers’ Dean Wells Dead at 54 After Cancer Battle


The former secondary of Carolina Panthers Dean Wells died after a two -year battle against cancer. He was 54 years old.

Wells, who played in the NFL for almost a decade, died on Wednesday April 3, reported Caroline Panthers.

In addition to the panthers, the professional athlete also played for the Seattle Seahawks, in which he was drafted in 1993. Before his career in the NFL, he played for the University of Kentucky during his university football career. Wells retired from professional football in 2001.

Wells was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (all) in early 2023 and started chemotherapy. According to Mayo Clinic, everything is a type of cancer in the blood and bone marrow and is “a disease that progresses quickly and creates immature blood cells, rather than mature cells”.

After months of chemo treatment, Wells cancer initially entered the news before receiving the news in the fall later.

Wells talked about his fight against cancer with Sports Outlet Ksr in April 2024.

“Show me who to attack and I can do it,” said Wells at the point of sale. “It is in the hands of doctors and it is in the hands of God.”

In the same interview, Wells shared the details of the support he had received from those around him and the way he was trying to remain positive in the middle of the difficult diagnosis.

“So many teammates have stretched out.” You are one of the most difficult guys I have ever met. I know you beat this, “he said.” There is a mental tenacity that enters it. You must have a positive attitude that you can beat it. I did everything I can.

Wells added that he had learned his positive perspective from his mother.

“In general, my mother was a very positive person and I think she sort of detected herself in this regard,” he added. “Not that I am not afraid and that everything you expect with the possibility of dying, but you must always find a way to enjoy every day and stay positive.”

According to the Carolina Panthers, Wells has spent much of the last year of his life aware of how to help the fight against cancer, in particular by encouraging people to give blood, making a donation to cancer research initiatives and joining the bone marrow register.

Wells is survived by his wife Lisa and two sons.
