There are a ton of stories about actors who almost played a character who has become extremely famous for one reason or another. Michael Douglas almost played the famous explorer Christopher Columbus In a film Ridley Scott. Val Kilmer almost played the leader in the Morpheus resistance in “The Matrix”. And now we have another pleasure in adding to the mixture: the actor and joker Gonzo Eric André was offered the very role that made the actor “succession” Kieran Culkin, winner of the Academy Prize.

In an interview with the actor Andrew Santino on his Ginger whiskey podcastAndre revealed that the writer and director of “real pain” Jesse Eisenberg had set out to offer him the role of Benjamin “Benji” Kaplan in his dramatic Buddy Tour Buddy. Andre refused it and Culkin finally addressed the role of Benji to the free but broken spirit, which uses the journey as a way to say goodbye to his recently deceased beloved grandmother. “A real pain” would have been a very different film with Andre in the role of Benji and Culkin gave the performance of a life, so everything worked for the public. For Eric André … not so much.
André thought that playing in real pain would be a disappointment
Culkin gave an incredible, Nuanced performance like Benji mourning in “A Real Pain”. While André is quite funny, his real dramatic chops have not yet been tested. His version of “A Real Pain” would probably have been wilder, but when the offer arrived, it was simply not interested. As André explained it on the podcast:

“Jesse Eisenberg calls me. I gave me the role for which Kieran Culkin obtained the Oscar. I was like, it seems really miserable and not in my way. I read the script. I said to myself, to go to Poland for six weeks and shoot a film where we babble about the Holocaust seems to be a bummer […] I said to myself: “Enjoy the offer, of course it will be great, I don’t think it’s what I’m looking for right now.” Motherf ***** won an Oscar for the role I spent. “”
André continued to note that he was not often offered, so everything was somehow a shock from top to bottom. It is not really bad about the film outside of his way, although it would certainly have been interesting to see him try to tackle such heavy equipment. He is ready to go through a lot of misery and torture his guests His crazy adult swimming show “The Eric Andre Show”, “ But it seems that a six -week shoot / shooting of the Holocaust tour in Poland was just a little too much misery to bear.
