The rivalry on the screen between Jerry (Jerry Seinfeld) and Newman (Wayne Knight) is one of the funniest aspects of “Seinfeld”. Newman lives in Jerry’s corridor in the same building, and he works as a factor. For reasons that are never revealed, Newman and Jerry hate each other with an ardent passion. Jerry sadly praised his neighbor with a “Hello, Newman” who disgusted disgust and animosity. The character was introduced off screen and was initially expressed by the co-creator of “Seinfeld” Larry David, but was finally played by Knight, who gave a sublime comedy performance. Newman appeared for the first time on the screen in the episode of season 3 “The Suicide” (January 29, 1992).

Newman was a semi-Regular series, appearing in 44 episodes of the show. It was only a small fraction of “Seinfeld”, however, because it lasted 180 episodes during her nine seasons. Some fans of the series estimated that Knight, a comedy veteran, should have been allowed to play a more important role in the series. The four main characters of “Seinfeld” (played by breast, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander) were all shallow and horrible people, but they seemed to love each other. It would have been an excellent addition to the dynamics to have a character that Jerry just hated, week after week.

There was no reason, after all, that “Seinfeld” should only have four main characters. It could easily have been five.

When asked for his favorite support character, Seinfeld was simple, writing:

“Newman would be my favorite support character. I mean, when I have to have a real evil enemy like Superman, it was a dream come true for me. There is no superhero who does not have bad enemies, and I must have one. And I love that nobody ever asks” why don’t you have Newman? “No one never asks me that, and nobody calls him into question.

Knight, it should be noted, was already an experienced character actor when “Seinfeld” made his debut. He had small roles in high -level films of the 1980s like “Everybody’s All American” and “Born on July 4” before expanding his repertoire in the 1990s with excellent support turns in “Dead Again”, “JFK” and “Basic Instinct”. Knight had a talent to attract the attention of notable filmmakers, as we can see from his work with Oliver Stone, Kenneth Branagh and Paul Verhoeven. He won his “Seinfeld” concert shortly before playing the sneaky computer pirate Dennis Nedry in the “Jurassic Park” by Steven Spielberg. He made voices in Disney films and stung his scenes in “To Die For” by Gus Van Sant. (He was also in “Space Jam”, but no one is perfect.) He even entered the Marvel game, playing microchip in Le Bonkers-Ass “Punisher: War Zone”.

Knight also played a regular role in the successful series “3rd rock from the Sun”, and was the head or co-idle in a dozen other television shows in addition. Some can emotionally remember him to The 1993 sketch series “The Edge”, from 1993, “ A deadly fatal show that was too far ahead of his time, or from the moment The actress of Knight and the Margo Martindale characters worked together as private investigators in real life (yes, really).

Knight certainly had the chops, so there was every reason to include it in the main quartet of “Seinfeld”. Kramer loved him, Jerry hated him and conflicts would provide many stories. They should have done it.
