The Roux Has not been exactly hidden in the last decade, but you might be forgiven to think the opposite. She has not played in the United States for 10 years, and her latest album, 2020 Monitoringdropped a month before Corona Virus pandemic close the world.
But when she was perhaps out of sight, she was not only resting – she quietly perfected a new album and prepared for a residence in Los Angeles. A return is preparing, and based on the reaction of the crowd during his New York show, his fans are ready.
“It’s a bit like one of those things where it does not feel long now that I have somehow returned to the swing to play shows again,” explained the Roux exclusively US Weekly Before his Wednesday, April 9, concert in New York. “Everything came back to me in good ways and also in a way I did not expect as well, where you say to yourself:” Oh, yes, I have somehow forgot this element of tour and stuff like that. La Roux, whose real name is Elly Jackson, became famous in 2009 after the release of the successful single “Bulletproof”. At the time, the Roux was a duo, and the rest of their first eponymous album looked a lot like “Bulletproof” made: Heavy on Synths and the vibrations of the 80s. In 2012, however, the Roux was technically only Jackson, who was not interested in reproducing the sound of his first album on his second album, 2014 Problem in paradise.
“My first album, obviously, the reference was and the world in which I lived was the 80s, the synth-pop completely from the 80s, this kind of thing, and a little French electronica and things like that to keep it modern,” said Jackson, 37. “I think that many people decided at that time that I was going to be this artist. And I never intended to be this artist for the rest of my life. You can’t make a genre throughout your life unless you are, you don’t know? It wouldn’t really work, I don’t think, as a new artist. And for me, it wouldn’t be boring enough.”
For Problem in paradiseJackson went to a sound more influenced by funk, while Monitoring New channeled wave. She undergoes another quarter of work on her fourth album, the title and the release date which she has not yet announced.
“Regarding the genre, obviously, I left again slightly,” she said We. “I never go up too far, but it’s really another step where I tried to challenge myself as a producer and writer in terms of doing something that I always wanted to do, or maybe I didn’t know that I always wanted to do, but I had to learn new techniques as a writer and producer, which was really great. It is not a R&B record, but that has hip-hop GOOD.”
Jackson and her group of two people played three new songs on Wednesday – “Cabin Fever”, “Babyline” and “Lose Me” – and they were all welcomed by her fans, who, according to her, were extremely favorable to her recent shows.
“In a few seconds, they seem to be there,” she said. “They seem really happy that I play new music. They seem to get it. All their heads are swinging very quickly, which is quite rare to play new songs, so I’m really happy with that.”
This does not mean that she will not yet play “BulletProof” – she will, and she did it on Wednesday. It seems a little different now, more like the “Discoproof” version it recorded with Chromeo in 2023.
