Star Trek fans may have the impression of being tortured with new franchise entries that barely resemble the utopian future created by Gene Roddenberry, and Star Wars fans cannot agree on what should Being the franchise, but there is another fandom that has suffered for a long time which is still waiting for an adaptation to make the justice series. DiscWorld, the long -standing fantastic satire of the spirit of the author Terry Pratchett, had some decent TV movies, of which Post And FlagBut the biggest attempt to bring the bizarre world carried by elephants to the life of a giant turtle was so wrong, the fans claim that it does not even exist. The watchA BBC series on the biggest city guards, Ankh-Morpork, finally escaped the hell of development in 2021, but he failed to completely what many consider the best series of books de Pratchett.
The offset watch for disc fans

The watch tried to adapt Guardians! Guards!, The eighth Discward and the first of Samuel Vimes, the drunk chief of the surveillance of the city of Ankh-Morpork, by default really, and his heterogeneous crew which tries to maintain peace. Richard Dormer, who played Ser Beric Dondarrion de la Fraternité without banners Game of Thrones,, was a choice of casting inspired like Vimes, but it is one of the only two good decisions made by giving life to the series. The second transformed the magic city in addition to a steampunk setting, which not only helped maintain it in the BBC budget, but should have helped to found the most fantastic and fanciful parts of the largest city of Discward In something digestible for those who had never read the novels.
For those who have read DiscWorld novels, The watch was as immediately offensive as Article 31 was at Star Trek fans. The favorite characters of beloved fans have been completely modified, small things, such as the Wolf-Garou Angua which controls its “affliction”, to those who have fundamentally changed the very point of the original novel. Lady Sybil, the possible Mme Vimes, is supposed to be a rich noble with a feeling of class and dignity, but in the series, it is a justicula, and the only thing that the two characters share is a name.
The only change that is defendable distance is perhaps the transition from fantasy to steampunk, which brings with coats, microphones and a higher level of technology alongside Punk Rock fashion, but curiously, this part works. The watch Could have been a direct fantastic series, but the twist of the disc adjustment looks like something that Pratchett, who loved Zig when the readers expected a Zag, would withdraw. It is a shame that the series also lacks the whole point of the original satire.
A striking series

Terry Pratchett was a brilliant satirist who used his novels to make fun of everything in modern life, mobile phones and insurance, but also used Guardians! Guardians! To give the most succinct and precise treaty on the economy. The watch Turn a favorite part of fans of the whole DiscWorld series, the “economic theory of boots”, in which the vimes explain that the rich can pay for boots that last longer, while the poor pay constantly to replace their bad boots Quality and spend more on the long race, in an implementation. This is exactly the opposite of the way Pratchett wanted and is the unique and blatant example of what the series fundamentally includes on Discward.
It is not surprising that The watchDespite being the most ambitious Discworld project to date, has been a complete failure when it has been broadcast. Instead of being the creative, Csi-inspired Adaptation that Terry Pratchett was originally envisaged, it is a soulless mess that can only claim that “inspired by the characters of Terry Pratchett” instead of selling themselves as a direct adaptation. The only thing worse than no big adaptation is so bad that millions of fans around the world decide to claim that it has never been made in the first place.
If you want to see how not to adapt a series of beloved novels, The watch is available on Amazon First video for $ 19.99, but you would better take this money and buy Guardians! Guards!, Men with armsAnd Deaf noise! All three are still among the best DiscWorld novels never printed.
