Danny and Michael Philippou are back! The Australian duo responsible for the excellent supernatural horror film “Talk me” is ready to release a new horror film on the world with “Bring Her Back”. The film is surrounded by mystery, the official synopsis simply teasing a ritual and an isolated house. And yet, even without much (or no) details on what the film is really, the first teaser for “Bring Her Back” does a great job to build anticipation and fear.
The trailer starts quite innocently, with a photo of a surprised cat by dropping somewhere in a house. From there, however, the teaser evolves in a procession of brief and apparently random photos which alludes to the death of someone, to the funeral, to an autopsy, to bloody images and to Sally Hawkins who howl to bring it back, everything Before ending on the visual of a naked nude, the man approaching a woman inside a circle (the type of invocation). The images come to you quickly, accompanied by the disturbing rehearsal of a sound of typing and a strange score. It is the best type of teaser – the one who tells you almost nothing about the film, but just enough to make you want to know what is going on.
At a time when marketing campaigns spoil the best part of the movies in their trailers (Looking at you, “Captain America: Brave New World”), the trailer for “Bring Her Back” is downright clever in its execution. The fact is however that we should not be surprised. As much as this teaser focuses on the generation of buzz for the new film of the directors of “Talk to Me”, it is also an excellent showcase for the marketing department of the A24. Indeed, it seems that nothing can sell a horror film these days like an A24 trailer.
A24 has mastered the art of horror trailer
There is an execution joke that the A24 trailers are all the same, and it is undeniable that they have a specific house style. The distributor works with the same trailer cutting companies for his films and has come to develop a unique style – the one used in marketing for each A24 horror film since “The Witch” in 2015.
These horror movies trailers are recognizable to include the repetition of a scary sound (a sound striking in “Bring Her Back”, the echo has a character shouts in an underground passage in “Men”, a sound of Click in “Hereditary), a disturbing partition that crescendos slowly and rapid plans which are largely devoid of context but nevertheless build a Strange atmosphere. Stewart screaming from the outside, and images of men stopping.
A24 is really great for selling her horror films, maybe too well. Of course, there is a drawback. The A24 approach often deceives occasional moviegoers Who do not care about distributors thinking that they get a more typical horror film, only to find themselves disappointed when they get a slower independent film with greater focus on the atmosphere than on Jump frightened. Which led to More than a few box office failures for A24 Along the way.
We will discover how frightening “Rattest Her Back” is when the film reaches theaters on May 30, 2025.
