The Weird Late-90s Gilligan’s Island Reunion That Never Aired In The U.S.

In the United States, the last time all the existing actors of “Gilligan’s Island” were united on the screen, specifically to resume their characters in the series, was For an episode of 1992 from “Baywatch”. The episode, entitled “Now, sit down right away and you will hear a story,” saw some of the Baywatch rescuers finding a small island off California where Gilligan (Bob Denver) and Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) had been blocked for a few years. They explained that they had left their original island in a daring escape, to also block themselves on another island. Unfortunately, at the end of “now right away”, it was revealed that Gilligan and Mary Ann were not real, and that the events of the episode were all a dream.

In 1992, Alan Hale, Jr., Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer were already died, and it seems that Russell Johnson and Tina Louise did not want or simply could not participate in “Baywatch”, so it was just Gilligan and Mary Ann for their final appearance. The characters of “Gilligan’s Island”, of course, were so omnipresent on television (via endless reruns) that they returned periodically to other shows. Example: in 1987, Johnson, Hale, Wells and Denver appeared in an episode of “Alf”. This too turned out to be a dream.

However, it seems that there was a last meeting “Gilligan’s Island” after “Baywatch”, although it is technically never broadcast in the United States. And this time, it was not a dream.

Indeed, Wells, Johnson and Denver made their last appearance on the character of “Gilligan’s Island” in an episode of an 1997 science fiction sitcom called “Meego”. The show with Bronson Pinchot as a 9,000 -year -old foreign who crashes on earth, to be taken care of by a family of average white suburb. This family is played by Ed Beggley, Jr., Jonathan Lipnicki (which / film has interviewed in the past)and even The late Michelle Trachtenberg. Meego, it seems, was the last television character known to speak to Gilligan.
