Born Again’s Punisher Tattoo References A Chilling Real-World Phenomenon

The cooption of the Punisher logo by real world groups has really started in the past two decades. This included American (and even Iraqi) military soldiers, right -wing firefighters and militias, but “Daredevil: Born Again” seems to be perfecting in the embrace of the law of the law of Frank Castle.

It is not easy to determine exactly when some police officers adopted the Punisher like theirs. According to the Milwaukee Journal SentinelIn 2005, the Milwaukee police service investigated a group of its officers who had engaged in a “vigilant style activity” which qualified as “punishing” and wore black gloves and caps that featured skull emblems. But it was not until Navy Seal Sniper, Chris Kyle, told his story in “American Sniper” by Clint Eastwood that the use of Punisher’s symbol by military groups and the application of the law seemed to win a generalized traction. Kyle, who used the logo to represent it as well as his crew by serving abroad, wrote in his autobiography:

“We have paint it by spraying on our hoummers and our bulletproof vests, and our helmets and all our weapons. We painted it by spray on each building or wall that we could, we wanted people to know, we are here and we want to be f *** with you.”

After that, the emblem of the skull began to occur more widely among the law application groups in the United States and acquired even more prevalence after the Blue Lives Matter movement began as a response to the Black Lives Matter movement. Often, the Punisher logo can be seen alongside or integrated into the so-called “slim blue line flag”, a version of the stars and scratches which came to illustrate not only the application of the law as a whole, but the Blue Lives Matter movement and its provocative response to the accusations of police brutality.

Unsurprisingly, the cooption of the Punisher logo by groups responsible for maintaining order and protecting the public was controversial. Frank Castle is, after all, a killer operating outside the law to do cruel and ruthless justice. In response to this phenomenon concerning, not only Marvel gives Punisher a new logo As part of an attempt to recover the character, the co-creator Gerry Conway has publicly disowned the use of the police forces of the symbol, even by launching an effort to collect funds called “”BLM – Skulls for Justice, “ In order to recover the emblem “for the cause of equal justice and black life”. Writing on the project home page, Conway deplores the way in which the Punisher logo was “co -opted by the oppression forces and intimidating black Americans”, saying that its character and its emblem were “never conceived as a symbol of oppression”.

Despite all that, Marvel has also remained relatively calm on the subject and continued any dispute against the police services using the Punisher logo. Now, however, it seems that “Daredevil: Born Again” – and by extension Marvel Studios – is waded in this controversial speech.
