Anna Kendrick & Blake Lively Shine In Silly, Sexy Sequel

Le Thriller 2018 by director Paul Feig “A simple favor” gives the impression that it was released there is a life. In some ways, this is the case. The film, which featured Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, was a theatrical success before the pandemic completely changed the cinema as we know it. Now it is a landscape dominated by streaming. Somewhat ironically, the prevalence of streaming has allowed Feig to bring together Kendrick and Lively for a suiteMade for a streamer, especially the Amazon Prime video, seven years later. For better and for the worst, “another simple favor” is a really decadent affair, much more silly and even more sexy. In some ways, this is the perfect streaming film.

The continuation resumed several years after the events of the first film and focuses on Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick), who is unexpectedly visited by his old friend Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) after being released from prison. They meet on the beautiful island of Capri, Italy for Emily’s extravagant marriage to a wealthy Italian businessman, Stéphanie serving as a bridesmaid. Stéphanie is wary of Emily’s motivations, but in any case, largely, to help sell her book on their previous meeting. Naturally, murder and intrigue follows as this marriage takes place, again putting Stephanie and Emily in the middle of an even more twisted series of events.

It wouldn’t be fair To call “a simple favor” a film totally put in the earth. It is certainly sumptuous, and the mystery takes place in a way that only a film could really allow. However, he maintains a more anchored quality there, and it is undoubtedly the most serious film of Feig to date. With “another simple favor”, Feig leaves the ground for something much more Campy and Salace. The mileage will vary on its attractive, but it certainly looks like popcorn entertainment designed for the streaming era.

Paul Feig goes above for this simple favorite meeting

Credit where credit is due, it is not as if a camp or stupidity is not intentional. From the jump, it is obvious that Feig wanted to do something more exaggerated. It is sort of a daring decision. It would have been very easy to do exactly the same thing. After all, it worked the first time fairly well, right?

Whether or not the final product is just as satisfactory or that the tight air is certainly to be discussed. “Another simple favor” is much more films, it’s undeniable. If the first film was a meal of steak and potatoes in a good restaurant, it is an unlimited dessert bar with fanciful candies. Is one better than the other? Speaking nutritionally, yes. But they both have good taste.

It is not quite a jump of tone to say “Gremlins 2: the new lot” was Compared to his predecessor, but it’s certainly a jump. Feig has fun absolutely, and it would be difficult to accuse it of being a boring film. It is extravagant, ridiculous and too muffled, with more diapers than an onion. He dances on the edge of a razor with regard to the leap of the shark. During all this time, it feels like Feig knows that, which is why he does not collapse. There is confidence in chaos.

Another simple favor is reinforced by the two lead performance

If this film has a strength, it is undoubtedly its two tracks. Anna Kendrick comes out of her director’s beginnings “Woman of the Hour”. She grew up a lot as interpreter and filmmaker in the years that followed the release of the first film. However, it goes back comfortably in Stephanie’s shoes, going where this eccentric script leads it without jumping a beat. But it is a piece of chemistry, and Stephanie is not as convincing as it is twinned with Emily.

To this end, Blake Lively shines as an always-mysterious, daring and sexy emily. Lively, leaving the success of “IT ends with us” last year ,,,,, is overflowing with confidence, which works perfectly with the sometimes crazy direction of history. From the point of view of chemistry? There is something oil and water between Kendrick and Lively that works.

But if there is a star here, it’s animated, which makes this absurd worldly sing. We should hate her, but you love her somehow. One thing Feig knows how to launch. To bring Henry Golding back and several other key distribution members to the addition of new welcome additions, as still welcome Allison Janney, it is difficult to discuss the whole.

This film turns into really wild directions and it is not as polite as its predecessor. At the same time, it feels in line with what preceded. This certainly does not betray the characters or the world that Feig has set up. There is nothing worse than a boring suite and, even if it’s not all tight, it’s far from boring. There is something to say for that at a time of painting films painting by number.

“Another simple favor” arrives on first -rate video on May 1, 2025.
