This article contains spoilers for “Squid Game” season 2.

The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) is an instrumental character in season 1 of “Squid Game”, and doubly so in season 2. After the death of Oh Il-Nam (O Yeong-su) during the end of season 1 of “Squid Game”, he appears to wield primary power over the titular games, making him the archenemy of series protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae). After the first season reveals that he is actually Hwang Jun-ho’s (Wi Ha-joon) long-lost brother, Hwang In-ho, he also has a personal history with his little brother. However, aside from his identity and his status as a former Squid Game winner who now works as a high-ranking organizer, season 1 doesn’t reveal much about the guy.

As such, the bits of information about his personal life that he offers in season 2 are extremely interesting. Revelations about Front Man’s story begin to trickle in after the first episode, “Bread and Lottery,” ends with the bulk of the story covering Gi-hun and Jun-ho’s respective life circumstances and aspirations. Episode 2, “Halloween Party,” tells us that the character hasn’t always been alone in the world: instead, he once had a wife who is now dead. Plus, it turns out that Jun-ho and In-ho are actually half-brothers.

There’s also a very good reason why Jun-ho is so devoted to his brother despite his apparent super-villainy: The Front Man actually donated a kidney to him, implying a life debt that reinforces without no doubt the love (half-brother) of the detective. the traffic cop feels towards In-ho. It would also appear that Front Man was quite corrupt even before his career in Squid Game and took bribes – although it seems he did it to help his dying wife.

In “Squid Game” season 2 In episode 3, “001”, we find out that Front Man is competing as the game’s new 001 player. He soon allies himself with Gi-hun – who doesn’t know what Front Man looks like, and specifically rejoins the game to prove something to the Squid Game mastermind. This of course makes the Front Man a very unreliable presence in games. Nonetheless, his relationship with Gi-hun – while most likely fake – at least seems genuine, and he offers information about his background that matches what we learned about him before he joined the game as a player . He notably mentions having accepted bribes in the past. Then again, he also claims that his wife is still alive and needs an organ transplant, which could be what actually happened to his wife at some point before her death, but is a lie nonetheless .

The Front Man’s infamous antics have always been among the What ‘Squid Game’ Fans Need to Remember Before Watching Season 2. Now that the second season is over, it’s increasingly clear that the character is hiding even deeper secrets than anyone might have expected, and the show seems content to sit on its answers before. “Squid Game” ends with season 3.
