Each science fiction franchise must possibly be reconciled with the way they can represent extraterrestrials, most of them opting for the “rubber-before” trophy where extraterrestrials are only an exaggerated nose, ears or a forehead far from resembling humans. This allows emissions to reveal an actor under prostheses or heavy makeup as a character, then appear later as a normal human. It is so common when when The Orville If Michaela McManus presented himself as an Janeal Tyler Officer in season 2, nobody thought of the link with the Krill, Teleya, until it was too late, and it turned out that the future supreme chancellor was under cover, with a mission to destroy Captain Ed Mercer.
Teleya’s first haunting appearance

The seeds of Janeal Tyler were planted during the first appearance of Teleya in “Krill”, undoubtedly the best episode of season 1, and a highest point for The Orville. Mercer uses a quick reflection to destroy an advanced Krill ship, recovering a shuttle in the process, which he is able to use alongside Maloy to sneak aboard a Krill ship using holographic disguises. Horrified by the Religious session Krill, the couple is then touched by their experience with children on board, as well as their teacher, Teleya.
Retrospectively, it is logical that a real Krill believer as Teleya would work as a school teacher, then launch a vengeance plan in very long range. After Mercer managed to kill almost all the Krills aboard the ship, he tells him that the children were not his enemy, to which Teleya replied: “After what they have seen what you do today, they will be. They will be. ” Revenge is a dish that is best served cold, but in season 2, it was soft and hot.
Go under cover

When Michaela McManus made his return as an Officer Janeal Tyler, his arrival aboard the Orville in the first episode of season 2 turned heads, and there was no trace of his true nature as Teleya. Tyler set his sights on Captain Mercer and stimulated the advances of other crew members, prevail, falling in love with her, and finally, could do so alone of the rest of the crew and in an ambush of Krill. Even after she revealed that “Janeal Tyler” was an illusion, Mercer is still in love with her, working with her to survive a desolate planet, and aware that there was much more Tyler inside Teleya than they realize it.
Everything is wonderful when The Orville: New Horizons launched an interstellar war, with the union on one side, and the krill on the other. It was at this point that the spectacle drops the hammer, revealing that as Janeal Tyler, Teleya fell pregnant with the child from Mercer, a half-human / half-Kirll hybrid named Alayna (which translates into a “gently falling rain”). It is a hard blow for the public, most of whom wanted Krill’s suprecospensive because of his chemistry with Mercer, and the most obvious way to repay Tyler’s scenario, but few people thought that writers would have the courage to do so.
The largest guest star in Orville

Classic science fiction The emissions would be double -breaking actors to save money, generally not to present the biggest villain in their show, but that’s exactly this The Orville did. As Janeal Tyler and Teleya, Michaela McManus was able to make a huge impression on fans, solidifying her role as the most important guest star of a series filled with them, especially Babylon 5 Bruce Boxleitner and the legend of the sitcom Ted in. This is also another example of the place where Seth MacFarlane Star Trek The tribute series was more effective than Star Trek: DiscoveryWho pulled a similar trick with VOQ / ASH Tyler, but made the same mistake as all modern hiking shows, and he could not stick the landing.
The Orville Not only has stuck the landing with Janeal Tyler / Teleya, but kept the spirit of a classic Star Trek alive with a Shakesperan ending for unique lovers who is both tragic, cathartic and potentially, full of hope. Fans can never see the two gathered, but at least what we have seen was one of the best arcs of a character in modern science fiction. And to think, Teleya was only supposed to appear once; If this had happened, we would be refused the best double science fiction act.
