Warner Bros. And New Line recently started the marketing campaign for “weapons” by launching a viral website in the universe entitled “Maybrook News” Maybrookmissing.com. This website offers our first significant intrigue details for the film, as well as some bizarre and brief videos images. The home page also contains an article detailing the mystery in the center of the film.
“A scary mystery seized the small town of Maybrook after 17 children voluntarily left their homes on Wednesday morning. The mystery deepens as the article continues:

During the investigation, images of the front door camera showed that the children leave their house at 2:17 am Wednesday morning without any sign of strength. Since then, little information has surfaced and the case continues to confuse the investigators.
“While the city has trouble understanding what happened, the authorities continue to urge the public for all the tracks, while Maybrook is left awaiting responses,” concludes the article. All this is very intriguing and, since New Line won the rights of “weapons” in a competitive auction warIt is assumed that Cregger brings the goods. But the website also reveals a great reason why this film could be worth the investment.
How are weapons and the barbarian connected exactly?
By scrolling down, the website also contains another article, the one that makes it clear that “weapons” take place in the same universe as “Barbarian”. The article header image comes from the Thriller Twisted 2022 from Cregger, to start. “The underground prison discovered in the rental house,” said the title of the second article. This is where the connection really comes into play.

“A rental property in the Detroit Brightmoor district has become the subject of a frightening investigation after a local woman escaped the house in shocking circumstances and an actor was found dead nearby,” said the article. This clearly refers to the events of the film. The article also makes this crystal in The character of “Barbarian” of the verification of the name of Georgina Campbell, Tess Marshall::
The police were alerted after Tess Marshall, 28, was discovered injured and disoriented in front of the property of Barberry Street. What started as a simple wellness check quickly turned into a large-scale crime scene. Investigators discovered a network of hidden tunnels under the house, arousing questions about the history of property and the potential connection with unresolved disappearances dating.

Not two ways, these two films clearly occupy the same space. As for how they are connected, exactly? This is not clear at the moment. What seems likely is that the two films take place in Michigan, with “Barbarian” performing around Detroit. In Michigan, there is a Maybrook route, as well as a Maybrook Estates. Or Maybrook could be a fictitious place prepared by Cregger. Anyway, this website has helped put the table for a possible universe of interconnected stories. It’s something that a studio like Warner Bros. would probably be very interested.
Weapons could be the next Lane Cloverfield
For the moment, we have a lot of questions. Cregger and the studio keep the mystery surrounding this film kept quite closely. It should not be a huge surprise for anyone who saw “Barbarian”, a film full of surprises. But with the information we are seized, what it looks like is the “Cloverfield” franchise more than anything else. More specifically, this seems to be Closer to “10 Cloverfield Lane” by director Dan Trachtenberg “by director Dan Trachtenberg” than anything else.

“Cloverfield” was a huge success in 2008. Although we have not yet obtained a direct suite, the Trachtenberg thriller in 2016 took place in the universe “Cloverfield” but was centered on a distribution of fully different characters with a new premise. Another suite / spin-off entitled “The Cloverfield Paradox” was also published on Netflix, although less said about it, the better. Anyway, it seems that Cregger could prepare the field for something similar here, that is to say a scary universe with many stories to tell and connective fabric along the way.
Of course, it remains to be seen if Cregger remains in a creative way in the future entries of this universe (assuming there are). The filmmaker is currently Prepare to restart the films “Resident Evil”Which should keep him busy at the end of at least 2026. But if “weapons” is a success, who knows? Maybe he could come back to this universe after “Resident Evil” for another horrible conduct. Or maybe he will give the reins to another director with another story to tell. In any case, it is an interesting and potentially exciting development also, according to the way things take place. Stay listening.
