Alwyn spoke to The Guardian in an interview published on Sunday and open about his relationship with Swift and its consequences.

The English actor didn’t always like being in the spotlight, but his relationship with the beloved American singer kept him from always hiding.

When asked if he was worried that dating Swift would overshadow his career, Alwyn said, “I’ve tried to just focus on controlling what I can control. And, from the beginning, I tried to focus on the things that matter to me: my friends, family, work, of course.”

Alwyn added: “So the noise aside from that, I think I did what a lot of people do when they find themselves in the public eye, which is try to ignore it. If you don’t do it, and if you let all this other stuff in, and if it starts to affect you and your behavior, you’re living from the outside in. And then you’re pretty screwed.

During the interview, Alwyn was asked if he wanted to let go of the discussions surrounding his romance with Swift.

However, he maintained that he had moved on and it was up to others to do so.

Alwyn explained: “It’s something other people can do. We’re talking about something that happened a while ago in my life.”

He concluded: “So it’s for other people. That’s how I feel.”

Alwyn likes his privacy but previously opened up about his relationship with Swift during an interview with The Sunday Times style in June 2024.

Afterwards, the “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” star described his relationship with Swift as “long, loving” and “fully committed.”

Alwyn explained: “I hope everyone can empathize and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years. It’s a difficult thing to manage.”

The 33-year-old actor added: “What is unusual and abnormal about this situation is that a week later it suddenly comes into the public domain and the outside world can intervene.”

Alwyn also shared that he and the “Blank Space” singer had mutually decided to keep details of their relationship away from the public, and he saw no reason to change it despite rumors that Swift’s songs “So Long, London” and “loml” were about him.

He said: “I’m sure you’ll understand, given the level of noise and scrutiny over my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to open the door to things like that now.”

Meanwhile, a source said PEOPLE as of April 2024, Alwyn was “doing well” and “focused on his work”, before adding that the actor was “in a relationship and happy”.

The source added: “He’s a great guy and doesn’t like drama at all.”
